i think this should be opened up for visits. it seems like an amazing place and no website can capture the smells of the halls, the sounds of heavy doors or the atmosphere of such gorgeously historic building.
I also disagree on your last comment. Just because you do not believe or indulge in paranormal activity does not mean you shouldn't allow others to explore that in such a tragic building. This place caught my eye on a list of the most haunted places in IL and considering its on that list, it should be embraced whether it is fact or myth. If anything it will continue to add history to the old beauty.

Outstanding account of an employees life long presence at the Manteno hospital. Today the GPS team went to the cemetary to contact any spirits that may want to communicate with us. We never realized how large this operation was. It reminds me of my Navy bootcamp days at great lakes naval base. This place is not one hospital building but several buildings the size of a small town. The cemetary is now being added onto with the graves of our deceased military personell. Some of the graves need some help as the head stones have sunk well into the ground and some graves are sinking. The buildings on the grounds have been occupied by the vets and others to businesses and still look pretty much in well preserved condition. I did not realize today Dec 31 was the anniversarry of the closing of the hospital untill I found this very informative site after we came home as we like to investigate with limited knowledge to see what genuine evidence occurs. http://griffithparanormalso...
